Zika Virus
Zika virus is most commonly carried by mosquitoes. These are found in the tropical areas of Africa, South and Central America, and Asia. It can also be spread from person to person through body fluids like breast milk and semen. A pregnant individual can pass the virus on to their unborn baby, which can cause serious growth and developmental problems.
Most people who have a Zika virus infection will only have mild symptoms. Rarely, people may develop more serious symptoms.
Within Canada, the risk of getting Zika virus is very low. All reported cases have been related to travel (directly or indirectly).

Individual cases are not reportable to the Health Unit.
Should one go to childcare, school, or work if they have Zika virus?
No exclusion necessary unless too ill to participate in regular activities.
