Sexual Health

Sexual health plays an important role in our overall health. It’s about being aware of your body, your sexuality, and the risks involved in having sex. It’s about knowing how to prevent sexually transmitted infections, how to take contraceptives, and what options are available if you or your partner becomes pregnant. It’s about having healthy behaviours and attitudes towards sex, respecting others and understanding consent, and much more.

Through The Clinic, the Health Unit is here to help you by providing:

  • Education
  • Access to resources
  • Support and counselling
  • Pregnancy testing
  • Pregnancy counseling options  (parenting, adoption, abortion)
  • Pap testing
  • Sexually transmitted infection (STI) testing and treatment
  • Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) testing
  • Abstinence, sexuality and safer sex counselling
  • Needle exchange
  • Free condoms
  • Low-cost birth control
  • Emergency contraceptive pill
    •  Emergency contraception is a treatment that can prevent a pregnancy when used soon after a single act of unprotected sex. The most widely used emergency contraceptive is the Emergency Contraceptive Pill (ECP).
    • ECP is available at cost from the Sexual Health Clinic. If you cannot afford to pay this amount, speak to the nurse and special arrangements can be made.
