Mental health services are available for crisis support and less urgent mental health needs. 

For children and youth 

Hands The Family Help Network: 1-800-668-8555. Provides counselling and therapy support for children, youth, and their families.

Mental Health Crisis Line for Children and Youth: 1-844-287-9072. Provides 24/7 support for children, youth, parents, and caregivers from Nipissing and Parry Sound districts.

Kids Help Phone: 1-800-668-6868. Free, confidential professional counseling, information, and referrals for mental health and addictions services.

Activities to Manage Stress and Mental Health

Participate in one of these activities:

  • Journaling
  • Physical activity
  • Going for a walk
  • Starting a new hobby
  • Learning a new skill
  • Watching a movie
  • Reaching out to a friend
  • Calling a family member

 Take care of yourself and reduce your anxiety by:

  • Slowing down, relaxing and breathing
  • Taking time for yourself
  • Taking breaks, as needed
  • Fueling your body with sleep, food and water
  • Limiting caffeine and alcohol intake
  • Unplugging from technology

Community Counseling Centre of Nipissing

The Community Counseling Centre of Nipissing offers a wide range of mental health and addictions services to meet your needs. Local confidential counseling services are offered by telephone and video. Appointments are confidential.

Ontario Addiction Treatment Centres offer a wide variety of treatment, testing, harm reduction and counselling services to meet your individual needs. Services are confidential and are available 7 days a week.

Canadian Mental Health Association

The Canadian Mental Health association offers a variety of online and in-person mental health services to meet the needs of all individuals including post-secondary students. Services are available Mon. to Fri. from 8:30 a.m.- 4:30 p.m.

West Nipissing General Hospital’s Alliance Centre

The Alliance Centre offers a variety of online and in-person mental health and addictions services for individuals ages 16 and up. Services are offered in both English and French, available Mon. to Fri from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m., and available to individuals living in West Nipissing.

The Hope for Wellness Help Line offers immediate mental health counselling and crisis intervention to Indigenous peoples across Canada. Trans Helpline

Trans Helpline is a peer support phone service run by trans people for trans and questioning peers. This is a free service for all ages. Hours vary based on availability of volunteers.

For Pregnant, Postpartum, & Families with (young) children aged 0-1 year

Mood Changes during and after pregnancy are very common. It can affect mothers and partners. It is important to reach out. Help is available. You are not alone. This is not your fault. There is help for you and your family.

Public Health Nurse Support

Family Health Information Line

Speak to a Public Health Nurse (PHN) for information on different types of mood changes that can occur during pregnancy or following the birth of a child.  Screening for perinatal mood disorders is available, as well as opportunity to learn what treatment options and supports are available in the community.  PHNs are available Monday to Friday 8:30 am to 4:30 pm by calling 1-800-563-2808 Ext 5351 or by emailing healthy.families@healthunit.ca

Healthy Babies Healthy Children (HBHC)

A home visiting program to support parents who are expecting a baby and parents of children who have not started school. Parenting is one of the hardest jobs you will ever have and all parents needs some help sometimes. We can work with you to help you make changes that are important to you and your family. To self-refer to the program contact 1-800-563-2808 Ext 5351

Medical Assessment

Contact your Health Care Provider, Physician, Midwife, Nurse Practitioner, or Obstetrician if you are not feeling yourself and wondering if you may be experiencing a mood change during pregnancy or after having a baby.

Note: Perinatal Psychiatric consultation is available through the Ontario Telemedicine (tele-psychiatry) Program to all Ontario Primary Health Care Providers (Family MD, NP etc).

Community Mental Health Services

Visit your Family Physician/Nurse Practitioner

If your health care provider is part of the Family Health Team or Community Health Centre, you have access to free time-limited counselling and different groups.

Community Counselling Centre of Nipissing

Call for one-on-one mental health counselling, available to those 12 years of age and older. Walk in clinic currently operating by phone on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. at (705) 472-6515

Alliance Centre (West Nipissing General Hospital)

Mental Wellness & Social Services Offers holistic and culturally relevant services and supports to individuals and families. 

B’Saanibamaadsiwin (Aboriginal Mental Health Program) translated means “living a good life “ . 

This program provides mental wellness care that is culturally safe. Services available include assessment, referral, crisis and counselling services. 

NBRHC- Outpatient Mental Health Clinic: Perinatal Mood & Anxiety Group (Nipissing residents only & Physician referral required)

The group is for mothers/birthing persons who have given birth or adopted a child in the last year, have the child in their care, and who are experiencing perinatal mood and anxiety.

The group utilizes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and is informed by Mindfulness and Self –Compassion.

Waypoint 

Ontario Structured Psychotherapy Program: Treatment for people with depression, anxiety, and anxiety related conditions

Publicly funded program for individuals 18+ with depression anxiety related conditions will have access to different services in the OSP program.  It is a time limited therapy offered. Virtual appointments available.

Online support groups available on a variety of topics where parents can connect with other parents in the same life stage and with common questions and struggles to discuss together.
