Becoming A Safer and Positive Space |
The North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit is committed to creating a welcoming and supportive environment for two-spirit, lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, queer, questioning, intersex, asexual, pansexual, genderqueer, etc. (2SLGBTQ+) communities through education, policies, relationships, and an organizational culture that affirms difference, fosters diversity, and cultivates inclusivity. The vision is a safer and inclusive space for 2SLGBTQ+ communities. Working to become a positive space allow all persons to access inclusive programs with respect and dignity. It means considering what we ask for on our forms, educating staff, listening to community voices and shaping our physical spaces to be inclusive and reflective of all needs and persons. Being a positive space brings visibility to the specific needs and experiences of 2SLGBTQ+ staff and clients. No one should have to leave a part of themselves at the door when they are accessing services or come to work each day. One important component of making our physical spaces safer is our washrooms. There are many types of washrooms at our Health Unit – all gender, binary (men’s and women’s), and accessible (barrier-free). Our goal is to create an environment in which all people feel safe and welcome to access the washroom most comfortable for them, based on their lived gender identity, free from anxiety or discrimination. To learn more, view our washrooms page. |
Health Equity |
The Health Unit's organizational culture and workplace respects all individuals; identifies and removes discriminatory biases and systemic barriers; and supports human rights, diversity, and inclusivity. View our Diversity, Inclusion, and Equity Policy. |
