Campylobacteriosis is an infection caused by the campylobacter bacteria. It causes intestinal illness, including diarrhea, abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting.
Infection occurs through direct contact with animals or from consuming undercooked meat, poultry, unpasteurized dairy products or contaminated water.
In Canada, campylobacter is the main cause of gastrointestinal illness.

Should one go to childcare, school, or work if they have campylobacteriosis? |

Exclude symptomatic food handlers and healthcare providers, and childcare staff and attendees until symptom free for 24 hours, or 48 hours after completion of antibiotic or anti-diarrheal medications. If a relapse occurs, exclude again, and seek medical attention as needed. Follow the direction of your healthcare provider, public health case manager, or occupational health at your workplace. |
