Mental health services are available for crisis support and less urgent mental health needs.

For children and youth

Hands The Family Help Network: 1-800-668-8555. Provides counselling and therapy support for children, youth, and their families.

Mental Health Crisis Line for Children and Youth: 1-844-287-9072. Provides 24/7 support for children, youth, parents, and caregivers from Nipissing and Parry Sound districts.

Kids Help Phone: 1-800-668-6868. Free, confidential professional counseling, information, and referrals for mental health and addictions services.

One Stop Talk: 1-855-416-TALK (8255). Free, confidential, immediate mental health support with a registered therapist for kids and youth under 18 years of age.

For post-secondary students and young adults

Don’t be afraid to reach out for help if you feel like your mental health is being affected. Below are some tips and resources you can use if you are struggling with your mental health.

Activities to Manage Stress and Mental Health

Participate in one of these activities:

  • Journaling
  • Physical activity
  • Going for a walk
  • Starting a new hobby
  • Learning a new skill
  • Watching a movie
  • Reaching out to a friend
  • Calling a family member

 Take care of yourself and reduce your anxiety by:

  • Slowing down, relaxing and breathing
  • Taking time for yourself
  • Taking breaks, as needed
  • Fueling your body with sleep, food and water
  • Limiting caffeine and alcohol intake
  • Unplugging from technology

Mental Health Services in Nipissing and Parry Sound Districts

Community Counselling Centre of Nipissing

The Community Counseling Centre of Nipissing offers a wide range of mental health and addictions services to meet your needs. Local confidential counseling services are offered by telephone and video. Appointments are confidential.

Ontario Addiction Treatment Centre (OATC)

Ontario Addiction Treatment Centres offer a wide variety of treatment, testing, harm reduction and counselling services to meet your individual needs. Services are confidential and are available 7 days a week.

Canadian Mental Health Association

The Canadian Mental Health association offers a variety of online and in-person mental health services to meet the needs of all individuals including post-secondary students. Services are available Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

West Nipissing General Hospital’s Alliance Centre

The Alliance Centre offers a variety of online and in-person mental health and addictions services for individuals ages 16 and up. Services are offered in both English and French, available Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and available to individuals living in West Nipissing.

Mental Health Helplines

Good2Talk

Good2Talk provides confidential mental health, addictions and well-being support for post-secondary students across Ontario 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Services are free and confidential.

Kids Help Phone

Confidential counseling services available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Services are available in a variety of formats including text, phone, messenger and live chat.

The Hope for Wellness Helpline

The Hope for Wellness Help Line offers immediate mental health counselling and crisis intervention to Indigenous peoples across Canada. Phone counselling is available in English, French, Cree, Ojibway and Inuktitut. Chat counselling is available in English and French. This service is confidential and operates 24 hours, 7 days a week.

ConnexOntario

ConnexOntario provides free and confidential health services information for people experiencing problems with alcohol and drugs, mental illness and/or gambling. Services are offered 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Trans Helpline

Trans Helpline is a peer support phone service run by trans people for trans and questioning peers. This is a free service for all ages. Hours vary based on availability of volunteers.

BounceBack is a free skill-building program designed to help adults and youth 15+ manage their mental health. Delivered over the phone with a coach and through online videos, you will get access to tools that will support you on your path to mental wellness.
