What is the publicly funded STI medication program?  

Offered through the Ontario Government Pharmaceutical and Medical Supply Service (OGPMSS), Ministry of Health, the STI medication program:

  • provides free medications that health care providers can keep on hand for STI treatment 

  • improves timely access to STI treatment 

  • reduces barriers to care (e.g., cost, transportation, and time needed for appointments) 

  • supports prevention of STI transmission 

  • helps lower the risk of complications 

Who is eligible for the program 

  • Physicians  

  • Nurse practitioners  

  • Walk-in clinics  

  • Community health centres 

  • Hospitals  

  • Correctional facilities 

Who can the medication be provided to?  

  • Empiric treatment of individuals with suspected chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis, and/or lymphogranuloma venereum infections  

  • Treatment of individuals with laboratory confirmed chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis, and/or lymphogranuloma venereum infections  

  • Treatment of sexual contacts of confirmed cases
