  • COVID-19, Flu, RSV Vaccines Available in October for High-Risk Individuals

    NEWS RELEASE

    NORTH BAY, ON – The North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit (Health Unit) will be visiting community hubs once again this fall to offer COVID-19 and flu vaccines, starting with walk-in clinics for those who are at higher risk of severe outcomes from the viruses and do not have a primary care provider. Today, the Health Unit released their community clinic schedule for this population, which includes:

    • Residents and staff of congregate living settings;
    • Pregnant individuals;
  • Harmful Blue-Green Algae in Old Man's Lake

    PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT

    MAGNETAWAN, ON - The North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit (Health Unit) is advising residents to be cautious after a harmful algae bloom, also known as blue-green algae, was observed in Old Man’s Lake through testing samples taken on Sept. 11, 2025, by the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks.

  • Harmful Blue-Green Algae in Whitestone Lake

    PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT

    WHITESTONE, ON - The North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit (Health Unit) is advising residents to be cautious after a harmful algae bloom, also known as blue-green algae, was observed in Whitestone Lake through testing samples taken on September 3, 2025, by the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks.

    While blue-green algae blooms may not always show the presence of toxins, there is always the risk that toxins could be produced.

    Harmful Blue-Green Algae in Callander Bay, Wasi Lake 

    NORTH BAY, ON - The North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit (Health Unit) is advising residents on Callander Bay and Wasi Lake to be cautious after a harmful algae bloom, also known as blue-green algae, was confirmed in the lakes by testing samples taken on July 29, 2025 by the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks.

  • Health Unit Issues Community Drug Alert Following Sharp Increase in Overdose Rates

    PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT

    NORTH BAY, ON – Between July 23 and August 2, 2025, nine overdoses have been reported across the Nipissing and Parry Sound Districts that involved substances expected to be opioids. Of the nine overdoses, one resulted in death.

  • Boil Water Advisory Issued for Users of Thorne Drinking Water System

    PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT 

    For immediate release: July 31, 2025 

    THORNE, ON – The North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit (Health Unit) has issued a boil water advisory for users of the Thorne Drinking Water System due to a loss of disinfection that occurred on July 30, 2025.  

    Residents and businesses receiving water from this Water System must bring water to a rolling boil for a full minute before preparing food and drinks, brushing teeth, making infant formula, and other activities that could.

  • Water Now Safe for Residents on Verner Drinking Water System

    PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT

    VERNER, ON – The North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit (Health Unit) has rescinded the Do Not Drink Advisory issued on July 27, 2025, for users of the Verner Drinking Water System.

    Water quality testing has confirmed that drinking water is safe to consume.

  • Do Not Drink Advisory in Effect for Residents on Verner Drinking Water System

    PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT

    VERNER, ON - The North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit (Health Unit) has issued a Do Not Drink Advisory for users of the Verner Drinking Water System. The advisory comes following a loss of water pressure in the distribution system.

  • West Nile Virus Found in East Ferris Crow

    PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT

    EAST FERRIS, ON - The North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit (Health Unit) is advising residents to protect themselves from mosquitoes after the Canadian Wildlife Health Cooperative confirmed a positive case of West Nile Virus (WNV) in a local American Crow on July 8, 2025.

    This is the first confirmed case of WNV in a bird in the Health Unit region this year.

  • Harmful Blue-Green Algae in Commanda Lake

    For immediate release: Thursday, June 26, 2025 

    RESTOULE, ON - The North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit (Health Unit) is advising residents on the southwest part of Commanda Lake to be cautious after a harmful algae bloom, also known as blue-green algae, was confirmed in the lake by a June 16, 2025 testing sample taken by the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks. 

    While blue-green algae blooms may not always show the presence of toxins, there is.
