TB Skin Testing

TB Skin Testing

We provide TB skin testing in certain circumstances. How you book your TB test depends on the reason you require testing.

See the options below to find out where and how to book your TB skin test.

Medical TB testing

If you have been referred by your healthcare provider to have a TB skin test for a medical reason, please contact us 705-474-1400 ext. 5377 or email us at vpd@healthunit.ca to book an appointment.

Post-Secondary TB Skin Testing

We are happy to provide TB skin testing for post-secondary students who require testing for a school placement. Before booking your appointments, please review the frequently asked questions below to help ensure your testing can be completed as scheduled.

1-step TB test = 2 appointments
You will attend one appointment to have the TB skin test given and a second appointment 48–72 hours later to have the result read.

2-step TB test = 4 appointments
A 2-step TB test involves two separate TB skin tests. Each test requires an appointment to have the test given and another appointment 48–72 hours later to have it read, for a total of 4 appointments.

Please make sure you can attend all required appointments before booking. TB skin tests must be read within the required timeframe. If you are unable to return for your scheduled reading, the test may need to be repeated.

Live vaccines, such as MMR (measles, mumps and rubella) and varicella (chickenpox), can affect TB skin testing.

Live vaccines should be given:

  • on the same day as your final TB skin test
  • after your final TB skin test has been completed
  • at least 4 weeks before your TB skin test

Please bring any previous TB test results, bloodwork results and immunization records you may have.

For information on how to access or submit your immunization records, please visit our Immunization Records page.

If your school or placement has provided you with forms related to your TB testing or immunization requirements, please bring them to your appointment.

You may also submit this information prior to your appointment by sending any documents to vpd@healthunit.ca

Employment TB Testing

We do not provide TB skin testing for employment purposes. Please see the contact information below for other clinics in North Bay that offer TB testing for employment.

Clinic information, availability and fees are subject to change. Please contact the clinic directly to confirm current information before booking.

If you have any questions or concerns please contact us at 705-474-1400 ext. 5252 or email us at vpd@healthunit.ca
