News Release: Harmful Blue-Green Algae in Tucker Lake

PARRY SOUND, ON – The North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit (Health Unit) would like to advise the public that a harmful algae bloom (cyanobacteria), also known as blue-green algae, has been found in Tucker Lake. Species of the algae capable of producing toxins were confirmed by the laboratory of the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks. The toxins in harmful algae can irritate the skin and, if swallowed, cause diarrhea and vomiting.

NORTH BAY, ON - Premier Ford announced the start of Stage 2 reopening and the North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit (“Health Unit”) is one of 24 public health regions scheduled to start on June 12 at 12:01 a.m.

NORTH BAY, ON - The North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit (“Health Unit”) announced today that there was a privacy breach in relation to its online COVID-19 dashboard. The dashboard contained information related to the number of COVID-19 tests and confirmed cases in the local community. News Release: Health Unit Reports First Death Due to COVID-19

NORTH BAY, ON – It is with great sadness that the North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit (Health Unit) reports the first death related to COVID-19 in the Health Unit’s district. The individual was a woman in her 50s who passed away in the last 24 hours. The Health Unit is working collaboratively with the hospitals involved and community stakeholders on contact tracing activities to identify and follow-up with close contacts.
