ALMAGUIN HIGHLANDS, ON- The North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit (Health Unit), is seeing an increase in the number of cases of Hepatitis A in the South River, Sundridge and Burk’s Falls areas. Hepatitis A is a virus that affects the liver. Usually spread by eating or drinking something contaminated with the feces of someone with the virus. A partner with Hepatitis A can spread the virus through sexual activities or through sharing drug use equipment.

News Release: Harmful Blue-Green Algae in Harris Lake

McDOUGALL, ON -  The North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit (Health Unit) would like to advise the public that a harmful algae bloom (cyanobacteria), also known as blue-green algae, has been found in Harris Lake. Species of the algae capable of producing toxins were confirmed by the laboratory of the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks. The toxins in harmful algae can irritate the skin and, if swallowed, cause diarrhea and vomiting.

NORTH BAY, ON – The mandated use of face coverings in the North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit’s (Health Unit) region comes into effect tomorrow, July 24, 2020, at 12:01 a.m. Face coverings must be worn in ‘enclosed public spaces’. This means indoor spaces of businesses, organizations, and services accessed by the public, including public transportation.
