News Release: Harmful Blue-Green Algae in Legrou Lake

NORTH BAY, ON– The North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit (Health Unit) would like to advise the public that a harmful algae bloom (cyanobacteria), also known as blue-green algae, has been found in Legrou Lake. Species of the algae capable of producing toxins were confirmed by the laboratory of the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks. The toxins in harmful algae can irritate the skin and, if swallowed, cause diarrhea and vomiting.

NIPISSING & PARRY SOUND, ON - On Wednesday Nov. 3, 2021, the Ministry of Health announced the expansion of third doses for specific groups of people. To be eligible you must have had your last dose of a COVID-19 vaccine at least 168 days ago and meet the following criteria:

  • Individuals aged 70 and over (born in 1951 or earlier);
  • Health care workers and designated essential caregivers in congregate settings (including long-term care home and retirement home staff and designated caregivers);

NORTH BAY, ON - The North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit (Health Unit) has declared a respiratory outbreak at Chartwell Barclay House Retirement Residence (Barclay House) - the causative agent is COVID-19.
