Public Service Announcement: Flood Safety

Posted on Thursday May 09, 2019

For immediate release: May 9, 2019

The North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit is advising residents to exercise caution when dealing with flood water, and to be aware of the potential health and safety risks.

With current and forecasted rainfall, more local areas are expected to experience flooding. Floods can pose different levels of risk depending on the source of the water, the volume of water and how quickly and easily the floodwater can be removed.

Residents who are not connected to a municipal drinking water system should be aware that overland flooding may impact the safety of their drinking water. Those residents, whose drinking water may be compromised, should seek an alternate source of drinking water until flood waters have receded and their water source has been tested and demonstrated to be safe.

Information on what to do if your home has been flooded and how to clean up after a flood can be found at the Health Unit’s website at www.myhealthunit.ca.
