Rendering of new building

Contact(s)

In late summer, the Health Unit will be moving to a new building at 345 Oak Street West

The new building has been in the planning stages for many years to address inadequate and inefficient work space within North Bay. We currently provide programs and services out of one main building, plus two additional office sites in the city. The new building will enable us to provide superior service to the public and appropriate accommodation for staff and programs.

Relocation Details

Who:

  • The Health Unit offices located in North Bay will be moving to a new building at 345 Oak Street West
  • This refers to all of our programs and services in North Bay, including those at 681 Commercial Street, 222 McIntyre street and 700 Cassells street
  • The branch offices in Parry Sound and Burk's Falls are unaffected by the move and will continue to operate as usual

Where:

  • The Health Unit will be moving to 345 Oak Street West
  • The location is between Cassels street and Foran street
  • Close to Marina Point Retirement Residents
  • It is an 8 minute walk from our current location
  • 5 minute walk from all bus routes due to close proximity to the transit terminal

When:

  •  The Health Unit will be moving in late summer
  • We will communicate more information closer to the date of the move

Why:

  • The new building increases efficiency and access to services
  • All of our programs are currently scattered across three buildings. Having all of our programs and services in one building will be more accessible and efficient for clients
  • The new location will be more accommodating and functional for staff
  • The new location is accessible by all bus routes and is close to bike and walking paths. There is also parking available

How

  • To ensure success of the project and financial accountability, an Accommodation Planning Committee was established at the outset, comprised of Board of Health and Health Unit Executive Team members
  • In 2014, the Health Unit purchased land for the construction of a new building with the majority approval of its member municipalities
  • The overall project was approved at a maximum cost of $20,000,000. All costing and estimates received to date are within the allocated budget

What this means for the City of North Bay and for residents of the Nipissing District

  • With close proximity to the waterfront as well as bike and walking paths, we hope that our new location will itself promote wellness and physical activity for staff, clients and stakeholders
  • The design is welcoming and functional, and we aim to offer more services such as food preparation and education classes
  • We will have a more useful space for our clients and community partners (meeting spaces, teaching kitchen)
  • We hope that the new building will help revitalize the downtown core and encourage the public to utilize the programs we offer
